Tara McGovern’s trial was March 12 and 13, 2024, at the Johnson County courthouse (417 S Clinton) in Iowa City.
March 12 began with jury selection around 9 am. Jury selection took most of the morning. There were twelve jurors selected.
The court broke for lunch each day for an hour and wrapped up by 5 pm each day.
Tara faced two charges:
1) Disorderly Conduct (serious misdemeanor) charge with a maximum penalty of imprisonment for 1 year and a fine in the range of $430-$2560.
2) Interference with Official Acts (simple misdemeanor) charge with a maximum penalty of imprisonment for 30 days and a fine in the range of $105-855.
The verdict was sealed but was announced to the public as soon as it was received.
Tara was acquitted on both charges. Acquittals require a unanimous decision by the jury.
