The Equal Protections resolution passed 4-1 last night at the Coralville city council meeting with Councilor Vogelzang opposed.

He continues to insist that the resolution is redundant and that everything in it is covered in the 2007 Coralville human rights code despite multiple residents outlining the many limitations of the code that was written and passed 18 years ago.

Vogelzang also refuses to acknowledge the many times it was brought up to him that Governor Reynolds erased trans Iowans from state civil rights protections back in February 2025 and that it is why Johnson County and also the city of Iowa City unanimously voted recently to pass similar resolutions.

There were so many wonderful people standing in solidarity with the trans community last night and speaking up bravely and beautifully and their efforts will never be forgotten.
