On Tuesday, October 14 at 6:30 pm, Coralville City Council will be voting on a resolution prepared by the Johnson County Trans Advisory Committee.
Municipalities have a moral responsibility to do whatever is in their power to shield residents from Governor Reynolds’ decision in February 2025 to strike trans Iowans from the state’s civil rights code.
Coralville Councilor Vogelzang says that “to pass this document just seems like an appeasement to the LGBTQ community” and that “passing this proposed resolution would set an absolutely unnecessary precedent that I do not think is wise.”.

Unfortunately, Councilor Vogelzang is not up for reelection on November 4 but you can make your opinion about this resolution known by coming to council on Tuesday, October 14 at 6:30 pm or by emailing the councilors and mayor. Contact information here.
The full text of the resolution can be found here.
Coralville council candidate Katie Freeman was instrumental in working on this resolution in their capacity with the Johnson County Trans Advisory Council and both Freeman and also mayoral candidate Ryan Swenka have been vocally supportive of getting this done to strengthen and affirm our community.
