Courthouse attendance protocols

No hats or hoods.

No videotaping or pictures. This judge is likely to enforce no phones out in the courtroom.

No food.

No drinks without closeable lids. Travel coffee mug or sealable water bottle is fine.

Knitting is fine.

Security doesn’t take long but you will go through a metal detector.

There are limited free spots reserved for courthouse attendees on the south side of the courthouse on Harrison Street.

All meters take cash and card and also use the ParkMobile app. You will want to make sure to pay your meter or you will likely get a ticket.

There are 10hr meters on the south side of the courthouse.

There are meters on Clinton Street (east and west) outside of the courthouse and the VA Admin building as well as on Court Street. These are for shorter periods of time.

The Court Street Parking Ramp (150 E Court St) and Old Capitol Parking Ramp (220 S Capitol St) are both close by. 1st hour of parking is free.

There is also free street parking (first-come, first served) on Clinton Street for a couple blocks south of the courthouse. You may find parking there since it is spring break for UI students.
